Creator's Path to Financial Independence Calculator
Welcome back to Consumers and Creators! As you likely know we have been going through the Creator's Path to Financial Independence series. My first article in this series is by far my most viewed article on the blog. It gives an example of how you can grow great wealth by simply avoiding lifestyle inflation. I included some nifty Excel plots, but I was getting feedback that the scenarios I used were very specific and not relevant to all readers. So, in response, it's time for me to put my money where my mouth is and create something useful.
Introducing, the Creators's Path to Financial Independence Calculator (beta)! This calculator allows you to run a simplified version of my calculations from Part I.
You can get to the calculator from the "pages" heading on the left-hand side of the site. I call it "beta" because I still need to add some text on how to operate it and I'm still considering adding some features, but I figured I'd get what I had out there for your use and feedback.
I'm excited about this calculator because it gave me an opportunity to provide value (I hope) to my readers while learning a new language (JavaScript). This was a personal challenge because I have had little to no formal training in computer programming.
I've seen these calculators on other sites before, but I always assumed that they were generated with expensive software or by a huge think-tank of web designers. Turns out, you can accomplish just about anything if you are willing to devote a week's worth of evenings learning a new skill. And since all the libraries I used to create the calculator are open-source, this project didn't cost me anything. I hope you enjoy the new tool and I trust it helps you think about what you can accomplish if you simply think about yourself and a creator.
